A native of Silver Spring, Maryland, soprano Lisa Eden, earned bachelor’s degrees in both vocal and piano performance from the University of Maryland, graduating magna and summa cum laude, respectively. While a student, she won the School of Music’s Homer Ulrich Solo Vocal Award, and upon graduating, sang the leading role in The Bach Sinfonia’s modern premier of the opera, Fleur-d’ Épine. Soon after, she was cast as Fiordiligi in the Bay View Music Festival production of Così fan tutte and was awarded top prize in Bay View’s Adrian Boyer Concerto/Aria Competition. She has since made her Kennedy Center solo debut singing Carmina Burana with the Master Chorale of Washington. Most recently, she appeared with Washington Concert Opera, singing the role of Roggiero in Tancredi, won the Vocal Arts Society Competition, played Eurydice in Gluck’s Orpheus and Eurydice with the California Music Festival in San Francisco, and just this summer, won first place and the audience favorite award at the 27th annual Meistersinger Competition in Graz, Austria. The Washington Post has described her tone as “warm” and “velvety,” noting her “talents for communicating imagery and her thrilling dynamic facility.” She will make her Washington National Opera debut this spring in the role of the Confidant in Strauss’ Elektra.
